Queer Vox Supports Global Majority Actors

Queer Vox has received some questions over the last few days, and we would like to address them by reaffirming a few of our core values:

While we prioritize productive dialogue about what advocacy should look like (which always has the potential to get uncomfortable), we will never tolerate harassment, bullying, or personal attacks to be a part of those conversations. Statements made at the expense of others in our community are antithetical to our work toward inclusive, equitable, and authentic employment opportunities.

To the casting professionals and LGBTQIA+ actors that have placed their faith in us, we assure you that we have policies in place to safeguard our membership and our organization. Queer Vox is not just one person. We’re a non-profit, board-led organization, which ensures that our Directory, programming, and community can continue and thrive without fully relying on any single leader. Should any issues arise regarding the behavior of any of our members, we have an anonymous reporting form (https://forms.gle/mQ62QtrvXLmkiQtG6) and compliance officer to help monitor and address instances of unprofessional behavior.

Talent lists and directories make valuable contributions to the casting process and actors. At this time, it is not feasible to expect every actor (especially LGBTQIA+ actors) to feel comfortable and safe posting their identities publicly for all to see. Having lists that are only accessed by industry professionals is safer for underrepresented voices, and we are confident that casting directors and studios will continue to see their value.

Finally, Queer Vox stands by and supports global majority actors. Success in diversity initiatives helps everyone, and we celebrate and applaud those advances. We continue to monitor the developments with you and will continue to move forward to supporting whatever platform best serves the needs of and represents the ideals of actors of color in our industry.
